Half the fun of playing with trucks is showing off what you got and bench racing about the cool stuff you want to build. It doesn't matter if you're at a trail ride, a racetrack, or a show-and-shine. We all love to bring out our best and see how it stacks up against the competition. It's the same deal if you're the local mechanic at the corner gas station or the CEO of Ford Motor Company in Dearborn. Only the budgets are a little different.
For the big-money guys the spotlight doesn't get any brighter than at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It's where you'll find all the top auto execs in the country, and let's face it-it's the only reason to brave the January weather in the Motor City. We're there every year to make sure the OEMs have 4x4s on their minds and-again, let's be honest-so we can sit in some of the most expensive cars ever made.
Every year the auto companies pull out all the stops at the NAIAS so there's always some world-class showmanship to be seen. This year, among a group of concept vehicles that included an F1-inspired Lexus super car, a new GM hydrogen fuel-cell concept, and a Honda pickup truck (yack!), it was a Jeep that stole the show. Let that be a lesson to the auto world that when it comes right down to it, even a limited-production 550hp Ferrari Superamerica is no match for a Wrangler on a set of 37-inch mud tires.
