The staff of Petersen's 4-Wheel and Off-Road welcomes Motive Gear on board as the Official Gear of the Ultimate Adventure.
While the guys from Motive we not able to attend this year's trip, their precious gear sets were used the Ultimate K-10.
For the front axle, the stock Dana 44 was replaced by a Dynatrac Pro-Rock Ford style Dana 60. While a salvage yard GM Dana 60 is the typical swap the staff has done for similar such vehicles, it held a couple drawbacks when compared to the Dynatrac unit. In addition to its older age of least 14 years, a stock GM Dana 60 is also of low pinion design whereas the Dynatrac Pro-Rock is the superior high pinion style. Speaking of pinions, a Motive Gear set of 5.13's was installed from this crucial assembly along with an ARB Air Locker.
The rear axle was more conservative yet brutally as strong. Out came the stock 12-bolt and in went a salvage yard 14-bolt. That is, not before it was thoroughly cleaned, checked and rebuilt by Off Road Unlimited. This rear axle received a set of Motive Gear's 5.13's as well, also coupled with ARB's new Air Locker for the GM 14-bolt style axles.
Both axles made it through hell week, er, the Ultimate Adventure without fail.
